Create More Ugly Things Than You Consume

At some point near the end of last year I watched a TikTok or Instagram story telling people to "create more than you consume". I instantly made a mental note to repeatedly recite the phrase to myself. I had been spending a lot of my free time doom-scrolling, being jealous of "influencers", and just obsessing over trading cards. I knew I needed to get myself into a new headspace and my hope was repeating it would eventually get me to make the change.

I haven't gotten to the new headspace quite yet, but this second post of the year is at least a step in the right direction. Aside from writing more, I've also wanted to spend more time and energy on my other hobbies involving creation. Unfortunately, I can be very critical of myself, and I get into this ruminating paralysis where I'm afraid of seeing the result and I never start. Of course, getting better at anything takes time and practice, but I've also lost some of my energy and patience because of all the consumption and instant gratification.

So I'm writing this as a reminder of what I WANT to do this year, and I'm going to put a spin on it. "Create More Ugly Things Than You Consume." I want to gradually turn a little bit of that dooms-scrolling time into hobby time while being less critical of whatever comes of it.
